NTCC Monthly Newsletter
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Some may have noticed that we have not had a evening meeting currently scheduled for June. This is a result of two factors. One, the Board determined that with the number of organizations which now exist in New Tampa, there are only so many meetings someone has time to attend given business and family obligations. Many of the groups have meetings that could be co-sponsored by the Council and other groups to consolidate support and effort. Secondly, we were contacted several weeks ago about a proposed neighborhood update Town Hall Meeting featuring a return visit by Mayor Pam Iorio, to be staged in New Tampa sometime in June. To this date nothing has been confirmed, but we await word that will be passed on to you through a mailer reminder to our members and here in the Neighborhood News. The Mayor’s last meeting at Heritage Elementary was our largest turnout by far in the last year and we didn’t want to have a conflicting meeting detract from this important update meeting. We expect this meeting to be scheduled in late June or early July. In August, longtime community activist and former NTCC Board Member, Carol Polland will be organizing a candidates forum for the up coming County Commission election. When this is finalized with candidate’s schedules we will announce the date, location and time.
Mini- grants were awarded from Taste of New Tampa proceeds to The New Tampa Players for scholarships to their kids summer camp, Muller Elementary (an environmental magnet school on 22nd street) for an enviroscope which measures the effects of pollution in the environment and St. Vincent DePaul Charities which reaches out to the homeless and less fortunate families in our area. The rest of the net proceeds went to the schools and groups that provided volunteers for the Taste form Parking and Set-up to Garbage and Breakdown. The volunteer hours were logged and amounts were awarded accordingly.
In July, the NTCC will begin its Board election process. Applications for candidates will be available to all members in good standing as of July 1, 2004. Five 2-year terms and two 1-year terms will be up for election. We are looking for individuals who are interested in making a positive impact in the community. Time commitment will center around a monthly Board meeting and an evening membership meeting as well as on going work for the upcoming Taste of New Tampa. For more information call Jamie Thorne, Nominating Committee Chairperson at 973-9919. The Committee will accept applications and propose a slate for the ballot to be mailed to members in September with results announced at the Annual Membership Meeting in late September.
Enjoy New Tampa,
Frank Margarella President
